The Tidal N+ group hosted the first of two assistive products repair workshops at the University of Salford, Salford Media City on 16th May 2024. The workshop was based on a series of direct and online presentations, followed by breakout and discussion sessions to agree future actions and objectives around the important, but sometimes under-represented, topic of device repair.
Sam Simpson, Head of Research and Business Development, represented Exceed. He delivered a presentation on prosthesis repair data retrieved by the University of Southampton from Exceed’s patient management system in Cambodia, and led a breakout session on International Connections.
TIDAL stands for ‘Transformative Innovation in the Delivery of Assisted Living Products and Services’ and the group’s purpose is to improve the quality of Assistive Technologies and the lives of those who use them. The workshop aimed to contribute to this aim and the initial session centred on a series of 11 short presentations and Q&A sessions on repair in general and specific contexts.
This was followed by breakout sessions on Data; Repair; Methods of Repair; Impact of Repair; System Issues & Policy; International Connections and NHS Clinical Challenges.
The event concluded by looking towards future goals and actions for device repair.
Members of the Tidal network are developing a Prosthetic Provision and Repair Registry, to collect, organise, and share information about prosthetics provision and repairs. A survey to assist this work is available through the following link:
